What’s wrong with humanity?
What’s wrong with humanity?
, that is the question.
Civilization and Its Discontents is one of Freud’s most emblematic books. Undeniably, in the present book, Freud analyzes the circumstances in which society in the 1920s and 1930s was structured and the psychological suffering it caused. However, as old as this publication is, it is very current.
Even more that over the years, Freud realizes that the structure of civilization is primarily responsible for psychological suffering. Consequently, several Freudian texts evolve from the individual to the social plane. Despite this, the effects on psychic development on each of us, are not lost sight of.
In Civilization and Its Discontents, the main psychological sufferings that people fear are:
- Fear of death from aging, disease or natural disaster;
- Suffering because of relationships with others;
Therefore, to deal with these sufferings, we create psychological resources to support these pains. Likewise, these psychological protections end up becoming the same for everyone. These are called palliative measures. That is, palliative measures serve to achieve joy or avoid displeasure.
We have definitely focused on bringing the analyzes in this book to the most current events in our lives that are taking place in the world.
From the same point of view, I believe you will appreciate the articles on this recurring subject.
